Advantage Security has installed and maintain my security system for over 13 years in my business. Whenever we need any support they promptly address our issues. I was so happy with my experience, I had Advantage Security install a security system at my home. The monitoring is reasonable as well.

I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Jason Sutherland and Advantage Security Low-Voltage. I have been doing business with Jason for well over 10 years, and throughout that entire time, he has handled both our commercial and residential security needs with an incredible level of service, responsiveness, and personal attention.

We have multiple office locations as well as residential properties, and I have complete peace of mind knowing Jason and his team are looking out for all of them. Jason doesn’t just treat us like another customer, he truly treats us like family. He has built a wonderful relationship with my entire management team, and we all know that if we need him, he will be there.

There have been times when an alarm has gone off at one of our offices and I wasn’t available to respond. I never had to worry because I knew Jason would step in and make sure everything was handled. There have even been several occasions when he has personally gone to one of our properties to respond to an alarm. That level of commitment and service is incredibly rare.

As a business owner and operator, we have enough things to worry about every day. The safety, security, and protection of our offices and properties simply isn’t one of them because I know Jason has us taken care of. That peace of mind is invaluable to me.

After more than a decade of working together, I can confidently say that Jason and Advantage Security Low-Voltage have earned my complete trust. Jason is responsive, dependable, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about the people and businesses he protects. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for a security company they can truly rely on.

Five stars doesn’t feel like enough. Jason, thank you for taking such amazing care of us all these years!

I’ve used Advantage Security & Low Voltage Systems for several years, and I’ve been consistently happy with the service. I live in a three-story townhome, with my office on the first floor and the bedrooms on the third, so good coverage matters. The system gives me real peace of mind whether I’m home or away on business.

When I upgraded the system a while back, and again when a battery needed replacing, Jason Sutherland handled both quickly and professionally. He’s easy to reach, clear about the work, and doesn’t oversell. After several years with them, I still recommend Advantage Security without hesitation.

I've been using Advantage Security for about 13 years and the service has been excellent. Fortunately we haven't had any emergencies during that time but when sensors have posed a problem or we just had questions,, Jason is on it immediately. And "re-training" on how to use the system features is supplied without hesitation.

If you are considering Advantage Security, don't hesitate. They have provided security for us for over 13 years, and we have not had a single complaint. They are reliable, professional, and consistently provide excellent service.

Great company to do business with! They are truly professional in all aspects of security for your home or business (I use them for both). Jason and his crew are attentive, quick and responsive to any situation that arises. They are small enough to care and large enough to handle any security concerns. They sell you what's needed and requested not like some of the larger firms. I cannot share enough accolades about Advantage Security.

We invested quite a bit of money with Jason but the return was worth way more than the investment. Jason has become a family member because of his attentiveness to any security issues and concerns and his fairness in pricing. He saw things that required attention that we were not aware of and through his awareness to possible problems we have feel secure and safe. I highly recommend his company.

I love working with Advantage Security on behalf of my clients. Their team is professional, their pricing is incredibly competitive, and their response times are wonderful. I highly recommend them!

First Class Realty has been a client of Advantage Security since 2013. Advantage Security did the initial install of our alarm system and security cameras. The quality of service has always been top notch and quick response. We just upgraded our camera system and pricing was good, the recommendations were excellent. I wanted to add additional cameras and he advised that it wouldn’t be needed as the new cameras would be able to view all of the areas I needed covered, but if I was in happy with the coverage, with the new system I could still add them if I wanted. My new cameras are installed and he was correct.

My installer was Jason. I have recommended him to several of my clients and they have all been happy with his pricing and service.

Quick Tips

Keep Your Security System Running

Simple maintenance tips from our technicians. Have a question about your system? Give us a call.

Tip of the Week

Remote Viewing & Port ForwardingOct 25, 2026

Most NVR and DVR camera systems are set up for remote viewing using port forwarding in your router or modem/router. This past week we worked with a customer who had recently lost remote viewing. We found that Spectrum (formerly Cox) had shut off the port their system was using — port 8000 — and the modem/router Spectrum provided had no option for port forwarding. To make matters worse, Spectrum’s support staff was unwilling to help the customer set up any port forwarding.

We went on site, confirmed everything, and set the system up using P2P (peer-to-peer), which lets you view your cameras without port forwarding. There are a couple of trade-offs: your system connects through the manufacturer’s network, and some manufacturers limit how long you can stay connected during a viewing session. There are several other options depending on your network setup. If you have any questions or issues, please feel free to contact us.

Pro TipIf you use port forwarding, use a port other than 8000. It’s a common port targeted by people looking to do harm. To check whether your port is open, visit canyouseeme.org from a computer connected to the same network as your camera system.

Wireless Alarm System RepeatersOct 19, 2026

If your home or business has wireless sensors far from the alarm panel — a detached garage, a back gate, a casita or the far end of a large building — the signal may be too weak to reach the panel reliably. That can show up as trouble or supervision messages, or a sensor that seems to drop in and out. A wireless repeater picks up the signal from those sensors and passes it along to the panel, extending your system’s range.

We have also found that older sensors can lose their range over time. Before replacing them, a repeater may be a cost-effective way to get more life out of the sensors you already have.

Pro TipPlacement matters. A repeater works best about halfway between the panel and the far sensors, plugged into an outlet that isn’t controlled by a light switch, and kept away from large metal objects and mirrors. Most repeaters have a backup battery, so they keep working if the power goes out. If you’re seeing trouble on a far zone, give us a call and we can check the signal strength before deciding whether a repeater is the fix.

Older Camera SystemsOct 12, 2026

There has been a big shift in the camera and video industry over the past year, and even more so in the past few months. The main one is the FCC’s ban on new Hikvision equipment coming into the USA. Please keep this in mind not only with Hikvision, but with other manufacturers as well.

Older analog systems are just video and will work with another manufacturer’s products. When it comes to IP cameras and NVRs, 90% are interchangeable — it just takes a few minutes to adjust the programming and networking. If you have an older system and are being told you need to replace it, please feel free to contact us. We’re happy to spend a couple of minutes reviewing what you have and provide some information.

System TestingOct 4, 2026

Test your system once a month:

  1. 1Trip each sensor and confirm it reports correctly at the keypad or control panel.
  2. 2Contact your dealer or central station and place the system on test. Then arm the system, trip a couple of zones, let the siren sound for 90–120 seconds, and disarm.
  3. 3Contact your dealer or central station again and confirm they received the signals.

This is also a good time to confirm they have your current contact list and any gate codes. If you receive notifications or are self-monitored, confirm you’re getting the proper notifications as well.

Wireless System Sensor BatteriesOct 4, 2026

Wireless sensor batteries typically last 5–7 years or more. When your keypad or control panel shows a low-battery warning, it’s a good idea to replace the battery right away. Most newer sensors use CR123A, CR2032 or CR2450 batteries, as well as AA and AAA.

Pro TipOnce the battery is removed, use a screwdriver to tap the negative terminal on the sensor, then the positive terminal. Do this a few times and leave the sensor without a battery for 3–5 minutes. This helps drain any residual memory the sensor may have of the low battery.

Panel Battery BackupOct 4, 2026

The backup battery keeps your system running during a power outage and typically lasts 5 or more years. This is something you can replace on your own, but you will need access to your alarm panel, which may require a key from your dealer or installer. Newer “self-contained” systems require you to remove the panel from the wall to access the battery.

Camera Lenses and DomesOct 4, 2026

Dust, spider webs and hard-water spots blur your footage, especially at night. If a camera has poor video at night, this is typically a sign of dirt on the dome. Wipe lenses and domes gently with a soft microfiber cloth every few months.

Pro TipIf you still have the same issue after cleaning the dome, try rotating the dome. Domes on exterior cameras will start to become damaged from the sun and heat, and rotating them may give you a little more life out of them.

User CodesOct 4, 2026

Keep your user codes up to date. Delete codes for former employees, contractors or house-sitters. This is also a great time to confirm that your call list is correct and current with your dealer or central station, and that everyone knows how to properly cancel a false alarm.

Pro TipIf you use interactive services like Alarm.com or DSC-Connect, please take the time to confirm that your user names and contact information are up to date there as well.
